This is a strange phrase that I have heard from time to time, and I decided to check it out. As stretching is essential to muscle so that it can conquer the demands of the race, our souls need to be stretched to successfully meet the demands of life. God allows us to have a series of stretching experiences that prepare us for the race of life.

“…the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11)

Have you stretched yet? I bet you have! The things that come into your life and pull you are not always the real test. They often are the warm-ups that prepare you for future challenges. They are your point of reference that keeps you from panic when you are in the midst of the real race. God never allows a person to run for Him or with Him who hasn’t been stretched in his thinking, stretched in his faith, and stretched in his ability to live and love. When a problem that will not move, always remember to take a deep breath; God is stretching your soul.

Soul stretches are prerequisites for “next level” living! It is the stretching of the soul that enables us to face situations that we think will kill us but don’t, endure times when we think we won’t make it but do. We will face difficult times, but let they exist in order to challenge the soul and enable us to get loose from things that have held us back enough to perform successfully.
